Coonoor is one of the charming places in Nilgiri hills. It is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris which is 19 km from Ooty. The climate here is very cool. It is one of the nice places for the tourist to visit. Remarkable picnic spots in Coonoor for the tourists to visit are the Sim's park, Lamb's Rock, Lady Canning's Seat and Dolphin's Nose.

    Coonoor is a beautiful hill station tucked away in the Nilgiris in South India. Located at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level, this is a heavenly escapade from the heat of the plains during summer time.

    Coonoor is the second largest hill station in the South. Situated very close to is the famous Ooty hill station. Often, tourists who come here, opt for a package by which they can see both hill stations. The climate in Coonoor is milder than what is experienced in Ooty. Coonoor can be reached by car and by train from Mettupalayam, located in Coimbatore. The nearest international airport is in Coimbatore.

    This is the perfect place to come for sporty activities such as hiking or trekking. This hill station shows off an exotic natural beauty and is famous for its bird varieties such as skylarks, thrushes, parakeets and much more. Many people also come here for bird watching.

    One of the things that Coonoor is famous for is its production of Nilgiris Tea. Tourists coming here would never go without an experience a taste of this famous world class tea. The Tea board of India has a branch office here.

    Coonoor is the next largest hill station to Ooty in the Nilgris district. It is located at an altitude of 1839m height. The town is covered by tea plantations all over. The town is best to be visited all the year round with a mild climate that is less cool than Ooty. It is a famous picnic spot for the people in Coimbatore. It is situated about 28kms from Mettupalayam. The town is also famous for trekking and hiking sports. The town was founded by the British in 1819. The most famous park in the town is the Sim’s Park. It is botanical Garden that houses a lot of varieties of flora. The Park is set up in the form of steps and constitutes in total of about 8 sections. The annual flower that is held in the month of May is organized in this park. The Dolphin’s nose is located about 10kms from the town. It is named so because the shape of the rock’s ending point looks more or less like a Dolphin’s nose. About 7kms from Coonoor is located the Laws falls whose height is 180m. The Pasteur institute was set up in the year 1907 for the care to rabid animal varieties. The Pomological Station is the place where the fruit gardens are maintained.
